[Being the insular sort, Nathan tends not to go anywhere unless he needs to. Frankly, he would probably benefit from someone dragging him along somewhere occasionally.]

Okay. [Lying in person is harder, but . . . they don't need to talk about that subject, right? And there would be no other reason to refuse.] I would ask what it is, but I suppose that would spoil the surprise.

[It isn't like Richard hasn't occasionally gotten things for him before. He has a decent idea what to expect.]

[Well. Richard knows how skittish he is, so Nathan really doubts he would give him anything he thinks would spook him.]

[All that is left is to wait for Richard, and to get himself under control enough that he does not let on that anything is wrong. And that means sitting down and playing with his robots for a while, moving them back and forth in patterns so methodical it would have been almost disturbing to any audience.

[But he has no audience, fortunately. Just his robots and his anxiety until Richard arrives.]

[It isn't long before Richard shows up, carrying a box under his arm. There's little ceremony to it, he simply hands it over - a LEGO model of the spaceship Serenity.]

Here. Little somethin' for you.

[He takes the box gingerly, as he takes most things. Nathan is a delicate creature, so he has a light touch. His face isn't always the most expressive, but there is a definite light of interest in it when he sees what it is. Ever since that Echo from using the original teleporter, things like this just fascinate him.]

[Nate's manner has never been something that Richard has found particularly offputting. Rather, he's something of a point of calm in a world that never seems to want to allow people like them a moment of rest.

Still, he sees that spark of interest and can't help but smile.]

No problem. Y' can make it like that or use the pieces, I don't mind.

[Richard is one of the rarer folk on that score. The impassivity that Nathan affects has often unsettled people around him. Most do not actually say anything about it anymore -- at least not where they think he can hear it -- but he'd gotten unpleasant commentary on it from his peers as he'd grown up. ("Creepy", "robot", and various other descriptors in that vein.)]

Of course, building it as intended will be the first task. [Said as he opens the box, pulling the pieces out and setting them on the nearest table. Notably, he leaves any instructions inside the box. He doesn't need them. It's better this way, more like a puzzle.]

[He hadn't really expected Nathan to take the instructions out of the box. For Richard, half the fun was figuring out how to make something without needing to use them and he had to wonder if it was the same for the kid.. or if he just didn't need them.]
