CHARACTER NAME: Near
CHARACTER SERIES: Death Note

[OOC]

Backtagging: Yes
Threadhopping: Yes
Fourthwalling: I would prefer not.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): Nothing off-hand. But if I find I'm uncomfortable with something, I will let you know.

[IC]

Hugging this character: Sure, but he won't like it. He won't react violently, but his discomfort will be obvious and there will be orders to let go of him.
Kissing this character: Let's avoid this one.
Flirting with this character: This is fine. But he will either ignore it or shoot it down.
Fighting with this character: He's not really any kind of fighter, so this would consist of him being on the defensive and trying to talk his way out or otherwise escape the situation. So stuff under that umbrella? Sure.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): Absolutely. No amputations or anything permanent, but things like concussions, broken bones and such are fine.
Killing this character: Not without plotting. I'm not entirely against it, but I'd rather it be a rare thing.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Well, the defenses he had in his previous game haven't carried over, so he can't protect himself from this anymore. Surface stuff is definitely okay, but I think I'd prefer to treat any abilities going deeper than that on a case-by-case basis.

Warnings: Sort of a blanket warning for death (I mean it's in the name of his canon), and Near can be insensitive/prying about touchy issues if he decides they're interesting or relevant.

[POWERS]

Interfacing: While this is ability is primarily temporarily forming a psychic link to computer systems, it can be used for him to connect to people as well and allow him to rapidly share information. This is one-way; he can share, but he can't get anything from the other character without them also having the skill. Requires touch.
Interrogate: Once per week, he can compel an honest answer (from a humanoid subject) to one question. The subject must speak, and must not make any untrue statement, but may lie by omission or implication, or speculate on the unknown, if the question is insufficiently specific.
Identify: Determines all magic properties of a single magic item, including how to activate those functions (if appropriate) and how many charges are left (if any).
Detect Magic: He can potentially detect spells or magical items within sixty feet. (Not a passive ability; he needs to cast it.)
Dispel Magic: He can potentially end ongoing spells that have been cast on a creature or object, temporarily suppress the magical abilities of a magic item, end ongoing spells (or at least their effects) within an area, or counter another spellcaster’s spell. Targets and counters affect only one object/creature/spellcaster. Area dispel potentially affects any magic within a 20-foot radius.
Eldritch Defense: Probably not going to be a concern to the majority of characters, but he has knowledge of the signs and gestures used to ward off eldritch threats. For characters that do qualify as eldritch, would this ability have an effect on them?

mello + nick.

torrefied: (a struggle between right and wrong)

BECAUSE WE KNOW I AM TERRIBLE. I'm gonna say do the thing for both of mine currently in game.

Interface and Interrogate are the only two that really apply to Mello. Obviously this is going to go extremely poorly.

Nick ([personal profile] bekommen) will probably have a similar reaction, if Near ends up using either of those on her at any point. The caveat here is that she is a Nightbane! I'm not sure if that qualifies her as an eldritch thing but if it does, that could make for something interesting. One thing about Nightbane is that they resist psychic meddling while in Morphus (i.e., non-human) form, soooooo none of this would work well on her when she's the huge freaky doll-thing she turns into sometimes.

bekommen: (now you've made an offer.)

yeah, i figured. but if it does come up, i'm cool with it!

and i kind of want to say yes for nick being an eldritch thing! she doesn't hang out in morphus form though, so i'm guessing it would probably only become a thing if she went on a rampage like with the rage-induced assassin event a while back??? iiiidk, i don't really know if these two will have much interaction anyway.

tongueamok: (➣ no lack of confidence)

He's a caster, so Near will definitely be able to pick up if he does any magic stuff. As for Interrogate, it'll probably never come up, but juuuuust in case it does, Carlisle has some compulsion-based powers of his own, so he's kind of resistant to them and is likely to pick up if anyone is using them on him.

That's all I've got!

muscovy: (Is that so?)
From: [personal profile] muscovy
Interfacing, Interrogate and Detect Magic are all okay with Muscovy.

Dispel Magic is okay for the most part, but not the subset of ending ongoing spells on creatures and objects on items that Muscovy carries, because he couldn't renew them and I don't want to lose them. Temporarily suppressing the qualities of his magical items might be interesting though.
